The Bosch Tassimo TAS6515UC (also known as the Tassimo T65 brewbot) is the best seller amongst the popular Tassimo single serve coffee machines. Unlike the Keurig coffee makers (see the sidebar for the Keurig machines), the Tassimo controls the brewing process using a barcode on the T-discs (little round aluminum envelopes that contain the coffee), so that the temperature and amount of water used to brew the coffee are tailored exactly to the type of coffee in the T-disc.
It makes tea and hot chocolate as well, and the variety of coffees you can make is large – lattes, espressos, cappuccinos, latte macchiato, filter coffee and so on.
The LCD display at the front shows every single step of the brewing process (including warnings when your water tank gets too low). The cup stand is illuminated with three lights above the stand, which automatically switch off after five minutes of non use. It is also adjustable, and you can hold down the button to add additional water to taste. The water heats up in just a minute, and there is a stand-by feature to save energy inbetween brews.
The removable water tank holds 67 fluid ounces (just over eight cups), and comes with an automatic cleaning and de-scaling feature (you get a cleaning disc with your Tassimo T65, which you use instead of the normal T-discs when doing a cleaning run, plus they give you de-scaling tablets). The removable parts are all dishwasher safe.
You get a limited one year warranty with this coffee maker.
What is the difference between the Tassimo T65 and the Tassimo T45? The illuminated stand (which is not included in the Tassimo T45), and the improved LED display. On the T65, the display really walks you through the entire brewing process, so you don’t have to consult your instruction booklet, and they’ve also added the warnings mentioned above about problems such as the water reservoir running low. The display on the T45 is much simpler. If you like these extra features, then buy the T65, otherwise go for the slightly cheaper T45.
Comparison with Keurig machines: the Tassimo is much quieter than the Keurig machines. Plus they appear to be better made, there have been very few reports if any of this machine breaking down. That’s reliable German engineering for you.
Best prices: Amazon are selling this machine with free delivery, see below. I’ve included the price of the T45 (which also includes free shipping) so you can compare:
